At All Saints’ we aim to excite our children about learning and to give them an appreciation that learning is a life-long process that can make a difference to their lives as children and in the future. We endeavour to provide a broad, balanced, rich and vivid curriculum which promotes a love of learning and high standards. We are committed to meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum and the requirements of the Bishops of England and Wales as our pupils pass through each Key Stage.
Central to our curriculum is an understanding that to be successful, children need to learn attributes and values such as; cooperation, friendship, integrity, empathy, courage, curiosity, perseverance, flexibility, effort, risk taking, problem solving and organisation. We try to ensure that every moment is used and encouraged as a learning opportunity whether it is learning a new aspect of mathematics, learning how to perform in front of others, learning how to resolve a friendship difficulty or learning to contribute to a whole school project.
Our curriculum newsletters below indicate what your child will be learning each half term.
Teachers set homework each week. As well as reinforcing classroom learning, homework is intended to develop the children’s organisational skills in preparation for secondary school. Infant pupils have reading records which we ask parents to write in when their child has been listened to read at home. You can also use reading records to send comments to the class teacher; in Key Stage Two, all pupils have their own planner to record homework and other events. Their planners link to our daily prayers and seasons of the church’s year. Parents are welcome to make comments or send messages through their child’s planner. In Key Stage Two, teachers will record the results of your child’s weekly spelling test too.
We thank you in advance for giving your child every encouragement and support their efforts with their homework. A cheerful, positive attitude on your part will ensure that homework does not cause undue stress and anxiety for you or your child. Parental interest in children’s work is greatly appreciated, and the willingness to give time and effort at home is valued highly in school. If you need any support in relation to homework, please contact your child’s class teacher.
