Year Three Visit the Oriental Museum

A post in our latest news section.

On Wednesday 22nd October, Year Three had a fascinating and educational visit to the Oriental Museum in Durham as part of their history topic on Ancient Egypt. The trip offered a unique opportunity for children to engage with real artefacts and deepen their understanding of Egyptian life, beliefs and customs.

During the visit, pupils explored the museum’s impressive Egyptian collection which includes genuine mummies, amulets and ancient pottery. They took part in interactive workshops where they learned about hieroglyphics, burial rituals and the importance of the River Nile. The hands-on activities sparked curiosity and encouraged thoughtful questions, helping to bring history to life in a memorable way.

Mrs. Dunn, Mrs. Days as well as the staff at the museum were impressed by the children’s enthusiasm and respectful behaviour throughout the day. Many pupils said their favourite part was seeing a real sarcophagus and discovering how Egyptians prepared for the afterlife!
