Year One’s Visit to Durham Cathedral

A post in our latest news section.

On Friday 25th October, Year One visited Durham Cathedral. In our Geography lessons we have been learning all about cities and how they are different to towns and villages. Durham city has been our focus, and we found out so much about the different landmarks and features. Our visit to the Cathedral linked so well to this topic as it is such a famous landmark in Durham.

As we walked from the bus to the Cathedral, we spotted the River Wear and we crossed one of the nine bridges that go across the river. The children were able to demonstrate their geographical knowledge by spotting these features!

In the Cathedral we were able to deepen our understanding of the Northern Saints who represent our house teams. The children were very keen to learn facts about Saint Aidan, Saint Bede, Saint Cuthbert and Saint Hilde.

We were so proud of the children and so many people commented on how respectful and well-behaved they were throughout the day. Well done Year One!
